Papal Preacher Emphasizes Conversion and Humility in Lenten Sermon
Father Roberto Pasolini delivers a thought-provoking message on spiritual transformation during the first Lenten sermon.
Father Roberto Pasolini, the Preacher of the Papal Household, delivered his first Lenten sermon on March 6, 2026, focusing on the theme of conversion and humility. The sermon, titled "Conversion: Following the Lord Jesus on the Path of Humility," was presented in the Paul VI Audience Hall in the presence of Pope Leo and members of the Roman Curia.
The sermon was structured into five key sections: the change of taste, the alteration of sin, the rediscovered measure, becoming smaller, and ongoing conversion. Each section aimed to guide the audience through a reflective journey on spiritual growth and the importance of humility in faith.
This year's overarching theme for the Lenten sermons is inspired by the biblical passage, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation (2 Cor 5:17): Conversion to the Gospel, according to Saint Francis." This theme encourages believers to embrace transformation and renewal in their spiritual lives.
Father Pasolini traditionally preaches during the Fridays of Advent and Lent, as well as delivering the homily in St. Peter's Basilica on Good Friday. His messages aim to inspire the faithful to deepen their relationship with God through acts of humility and conversion.
