Nepal's Balendra Shah Achieves Landslide Victory with Support from Gen Z

Balendra Shah is poised to become Nepal's next prime minister following a decisive victory for his party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), in the recent parliamentary elections. The election commission confirmed that the RSP secured 182 out of 275 seats in the lower house, granting them an outright majority and signaling a significant political shift in the country.

Shah, a former mayor of Kathmandu and a prominent figure in Nepal's hip-hop scene, has emerged as a symbol of generational change. His party's success reflects the aspirations of younger voters, particularly those from Generation Z, who have been advocating for political reform and addressing issues such as corruption and economic challenges.

The election results saw the center-left Nepali Congress, previously the largest party, fall to second place with only 38 seats, while the Communist Party of Nepal–Unified Marxist Leninist secured 25 seats. Shah's victory is particularly notable as he defeated former Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli in his own constituency, showcasing the demand for new leadership.

The elections were held against a backdrop of mass protests that had previously led to Oli's resignation, driven largely by youth activism. The new government, led by Shah, will face the critical task of revitalizing Nepal's economy and tackling the corruption that plagued the previous administration.
