Democrats Achieve Significant Victory in New Hampshire Special Election
Bobbi Boudman's victory marks a notable shift in local politics, reflecting broader trends ahead of the midterm elections.
In a remarkable turn of events, Democrat Bobbi Boudman secured a special election victory for a state house seat in New Hampshire's Carroll County District 7, flipping a district previously held by Republicans. This election is part of a broader trend, as it represents the 28th Democratic upset since the 2024 elections, suggesting a potential blue wave as the midterms approach.
Boudman triumphed over Republican Dale Fincher, achieving approximately 52% of the vote from over 4,000 participating voters. This win is particularly significant as it comes after Boudman’s previous attempts to secure the seat, where she lost to incumbent Glenn Cordelli in the last two election cycles. Cordelli's resignation prompted the special election held on March 10, 2026.
Marissa Hebert, spokesperson for the New Hampshire Democratic Party, highlighted the dramatic shift in voter sentiment, noting that Boudman had lost by more than 13 points in the 2024 election. National Democrats view this victory as indicative of a larger pattern of success in traditionally Republican areas, with the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) reporting no Republican seat flips since Trump's victory in November 2024.
The DLCC's president, Heather Williams, expressed optimism about future elections, stating that these victories reflect a growing momentum for Democrats as voters respond to economic challenges. She emphasized that recent wins are not isolated incidents but part of a significant trend in voter behavior against the Republican Party.
